ASHLEY BARBER STUDIO (1991, Newtown, Australia)

ASHLEY BARBER STUDIO The scheme entailed the transformation of a former meat-processing factory into a modern photographic studio and later Sarah Cottier Gallery. The open plan space contains three solid plane elements. The highest being a floating circular mezzanine perched on the roof trusses. Immediately below a jewel-like box structure houses a dark room, kitchen, bathroom and a stair connecting to the mezzanine level. Overall, the rectangular space terminates at one wall where the floor meets the wall in a sweeping curve to form a photographic backdrop. Design team: Danny Venlet, Rowena Marsh
