Danny Venlet - CAKE

CAKE (1998)

CAKE An object that unfolds into a table and four chairs. 1998. Prototype. Extremely simple in its complexity, Cake eliminates the clutter caused by the numerous legs in the classical combination of table and chairs. The four chairs can be moved entirely under the table top, like wedges of a cake, giving the whole the look of a block, and because of the full and curvy back of the chairs that what is under the circular table top is entirely withdrawn from sight. The stackable chairs are folded origami-like from a single 3 mm sheet of aluminium, while the folding also provides their necessary strength. Alternative materials for fabrication include moulded plywood and plastic. table 83 diam x 73 h chairs 43 diam
